Department with the universities in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Quality First
The innovations in educational modes result in the
international-oriented transformation. It has the logic that the
sound development of the students should be the center of all work.
As for the mode of the successful students, the College places more
emphasis on the quality and competence than
mere knowledge. The course schemes and curriculums are framed in
line with the demands of market economy. As far as pedagogy is
concerned, the basic task is to cultivate students’ ability and
quality and make the students take initiative in
their study. As for the quality and standard of the teaching and
administrative staff, it’s a must that all the staff should sharpen
their sense of responsibility, intensify their vocational training
and optimize the structure of their knowledge and abilities.
The College has earned its reputation through strict adherence to
the basic tenets of effective teaching and management and
discipline, and was awarded one of the class-one institutions in the
assessment of teaching and management by Beijing Municipal
Commission of Education. Building up soun d
academic disciplines is the leading concern of the College, with the
curriculum construction being the
primary development, and the classroom tuition being the cut-in
point. The College advances the teaching and administrative reform,
and makes
a thrust at the quality of teaching. The effective monitoring system
for teaching quality has been employed to help standardize the
tuition functioning and activities and proved to be working well. As
a result, it stimulates the keen sense of quality and responsibility
of all staff and urges them to heighten their professional ability
and proficiency in their career of life. On the other hand, as the
students recognize that they should play the principal role in the
study, they are conscious of their duty and participate actively and
extensively in the tuitional and administrative arrangements. A
large number of good ideas and suggestions put forward by the
students are beneficial to both the staff and the students, which
results in the enhancement
of the level of teaching and learning. The students of the College
have attained so high CET-4 pass rates at the end of their second
academic year as the average pass rates of all key universities
confirmed by
the Ministry of Education of the People’s
Republic of China. Moreover, outstanding
accomplishments have been made by our students in all kinds of
national competitions. Some top graduates were admitted by key
universities like Tsinghua University and Beijing Institute of
Technology to pursuit their double bachelor’s and master’s degree.
In order to meet the requirements of international education,
great emphasis is placed on bilingual instruction of English and
Chinese. All tuitional divisions have bilingual cou rses,
which add up to seven percent of all the courses. All-English
courses will be given to the junior and senior students of two or
three disciplines in 2006 to lay solid ground for their future work
in international business. The College attaches such importance to
the need of talent market that it vigorously launched
the courses for double certificates — both the academic and
vocational certificates and take the lead in introducing the British
International Vocation Qualification Certificate OSTA-C&G into
China. The training of e-business professionals certificates are
offered so that the students can obtain at least one or two
vocational certificates besides their academic diploma upon
graduation. As a result, the certificates
can make the graduates competitive and in a favorable condition in
their job seeking. The first time employment rates of our graduates
have been above 98% in the recent three years.
The College pays much attention to building a staff of high academic
level. About 35% of the faculty members are professors and associate
professors and the holders of doctorate or master’s degrees head up
tuition in all major subjects. The College also recruits local and
international renowned scholars and experts as the guest professors,
having a well-structured and high talented ascending academic
hierarchy. In its endeavors to satisfy the need of the training of
business professionals in the international-oriented economy of
China, the College provides excellent accommodation for foreign
academics and invites
a number of foreign teachers every year. Besides, in keeping with
the demands for practice-oriented training, the teaching staff of
the
College includes those who, in addition to their teaching status,
are qualified professionals in their subjects.
Education is the Basic Principle
The College regards the development and realization of individual
capabilities and potential as being central to its educational
approach, and moral education takes priority in the course of
quality education. It strongly relies on strict course management as
a means to realizing the objectives. The College,
among other things, requires freshmen
to live on-campus for the purposes of intensive training, during
which foreign language tuition and the enhancement of
computer-related knowledge are emphasized, thus providing every
student at the College an opportunity to enhance his or her basic
qualities and abilities.
Focused on fostering the sense of honesty, truthfulness and
regulations, the College built up the students information
management system —particularly the students credit and character
recording database, to establish credit system in which every
segment of the students education are concerned. This approach
can ensure the enhancement of the students’ moral development in
addition to their academic achievement.
After registering a course at the College the students have the
chance the select again to change courses at the end of the second
academic year, since some of the students didn’t have a thorough
understanding of the contents of the courses when they first
applied. The students are encouraged to adjust themselves to the
learning environment and work hard at the general basic subjects set
by all departments of the College during the first two years of
study.
In the interests of leveraging
existing educational resources and teaching students in accordance
with their individual aptitude levels, the College offers a number
of elective multi-layer and modular courses to students who wish to
deepen and broaden their levels of understanding and/or fortify
their skills. Various channels are open to the more energetic among
the students who wish to upgrade their degrees from a three-year
course level to undergraduate level, or from undergraduate level to
graduate level. The College has linked majors, minors and continuing
education courses into an effective basis for continuously and
progressively upgraded
education, which, in turn, has strongly engendered a desire for
further learning among students and has resulted in the contribution
of numerous appropriately qualified individuals towards alleviating
public demand in this regard.
The College
tries its best to create an optimal environment for its students.
Given the investment by the Beijing Municipal Commission of
Education in the Business Practice Center,
the
College itself raised additional funding and has constructed a
building for
comprehensive training purposes, covering an area of 7300 m2 which,
in turn, has substantially accelerated the progressive development
of the College's business training base. To stimulate creativity,
develop practice-oriented ability as well as change-driven
adaptability among its students, the College has established
beneficial relationships with a number of companies and commercial
entities, such as Hua
Tang Yokado
Commercial Ltd. and the Beichen Group Shopping Center. In addition,
the College had the investment for a sports center, rebuilt the
sports ground, which provide favorable environment for the students’
physical development.
The Sense of Efficiency
Geared to the needs of the market economy, the College keeps up
making educational innovations and streamlining administrative
organs which are small in number but highly trained. The College
plays a leading role in the reformation of office management
modes of colleges and universities in Beijing. Now all
administrative organs of the College and the sub-divisions adopted
centralized office management mode and invested to better the office
facilities and conditions. It is one of the first institutions in
Beijing
that hire out the affairs of rear services, thus improved the
effectiveness and efficiency of administration.
In keeping with the demand from the fast development
of China’s market economy, the College is building itself into an
excellent tertiary institution, carrying out educational
innovations, holding to the guiding
principle of integrating all kinds of educational resources and
striving for progress in a scientific way. The College subscribes to
and conscientiously implements the essential
tenets of incisive educational reform, comprehensive and fundamental
enhancement of educational quality, and speeding up the pace towards
China's internationalization.
